| 2 Turkish-Turkish dictionaries, acrylic paint on paper / October 2008 |
| In one of the Turkish-Turkish dictionaries, the words that the artist knows are painted over by black; in the other, the ones that she doesn’t know are painted over by white. This allows the viewer to first see what she knows and doesn’t know, then to compare with their knowledge. The work’s interest is situated in the way we learn our native language and how this knowledge represents who we are, where we come from and what we have experienced in our lives. |
